The Chiefs Partner with Altus

We’re very excited to announce a new partnership with Esports powerhouse The Chiefs Esports Club.

Founded in 1994 as the top League of Legends team in Australia, The Chiefs have since expanded their team to compete at the highest levels of competition in PUBG, CounterStrike: Global Offensive, Rocket League & Fortnite. In June The Chiefs was acquired by ICON Esports to forge Australia’s Leading Esports and Gaming Organisation, and is constantly pushing the boundaries by representing the Oceanic region in World Championships, World Cups and other major events.

For Altus Esports, the accolades are similar but in a very dynamic and emerging market in Racing Esports. Major events have been won, and we’ve competed at the very highest level of racing in both iRacing and Gran Turismo.

Having worked alongside each other at PAX and other events dating back to 2015 with team sponsors Logitech G, team manager Simon Feigl added that the new partnership was a natural progression, and one that both teams almost thought of at the same time.

“We felt a great synergy between the organisations, despite our relative difference in maturity within the Esports & Gaming scene. There is a lot that we can learn from The Chiefs, and a lot that we can do to broaden the exposure to each other’s audience.”

The operational structure of each team will remain independent, however blending our strengths and learnings of how we compete and engage with our audiences, it will be a great asset for each organisation.

“From a racing perspective, we feel the time is right to really move the needle forward as far as Racing Esports is concerned, and we’re excited to engage with The Chiefs in this new partnership, as they too are racing fans and love the unique features of racing as an Esport” Feigl added.

One area we are both passionate about is transitioning the greater majority of casual racers and gamers along toward the esports path as competitors or supporters.

Chief Marketing Officer at The Chiefs Josh Harvey explained “Grassroots I think in most contexts represents ‘casual gamers’, and that is where the focus needs to be. There are many ways to provide logical competitive pathways for those that are single-player gamers, and actually give them a competitive taste.”

The new partnership will see Altus Esports and The Chiefs partnering in several activations across Australia in 2020, taking the story of gaming and competitive esports to new audiences along with our supporting partners.

It’s a very exciting time, and a new way of engaging with the community and further enhancing our respective organisations. Be sure to stay tuned for more Altus & The Chiefs collaboration.
