P2 Finish in 12 Hours of Sebring on ACC!
The trio of Simon Feigl, Zac Hanlin and Simone Maria Marcenò have put together an excellent performance to finish in 2nd place on debut in an Assetto Corsa Competizione race.
It was a thrilling race, as we hit rain with 5 hours to go, and then returned to a drying track 90 minutes later. Simone did a fantastic job of managing the conditions which were very treacherous at stages, and we were fortunate enough to make the right calls on when to change for wets and slicks. In the haste of the change to dry tyres, we did make a beginners error by changing brake pads for sprint pads, and then having to change back to the endurance pads costing us 90 seconds in service, however we had good enough pace to be able to stay ahead of P4 by a good margin.
We looked all set for 3rd place before a tyre puncture for PCDC motorsports late in the race, followed by a stop and go penalty for speeding in pit lane, allowing us to jump into 2nd position with just two laps remaining. We ourselves were nursing our tyres, so it was a nervous few laps but we were thrilled to come home in 2nd place.
It was also great to share the track with some ACC luminaries from major teams, and also Jenson Button who did 2.5 stints towards the end of the race and finished P5 in the Jenson Dragon RJN McLaren.
The purpose of the race was to raise funds for the Huntington’s Disease Association in the UK, with sponsors Cube Controls donating a steering wheel as a giveaway. The goal of 5,000 pounds was achieved and exceeded, reaching 6046 pounds by the race end. Altus Esports donated our race number in value to the cause.
